A LITTLE BIT OF gilli moon

MONTHLY IN YOUR INBOX

Quote of the month:

We do not attract what we want, we attract who we are. And that is a culmination of our belief systems and everything that is about us. And we can change who we are at any time. (Wayne Dyer)

G'day peaceful warriors... Really nice to have your email company for a moment as I share with you my monthly newsletter. This is my personal artistry and music news that you get once a month. If you don't want to receive it, please be so kind as to head to the bottom of this email and click on the unsubscribe link. I much prefer you do that rather than yell at me.. he he. Just click and you're off and I won't bother you again. If you stay on it, we'll  have so much fun together in our virtual playground.

As most of you know, I'm an Aussie artist living in Hollywood. My adventures are full on, and a lot of what I do is about nurturing other artists, so you'll notice some tips and opps for Artists within this email. Here in L.A we are in June Gloom. Have you ever heard of it? It's where summer is thwarted for a few weeks while a deep fog/haze covers the entire city and we actually experience cold weather. It's amazing how each year the gloom knows it's June. But soon it will be over and the hot, dry weather will permeate everything we do.

In the worx is my new album "The Stillness" which will get out later this year. Constantly in the studio and loving the process. I've written new songs, and pulled out some oldies that never got recorded, and i'm having an absolute blast. You may not know this about me, but while i've been an extravert performer, i've been the quiet songwriter, silently writing songs all the time. I've had songs in films and tv shows and it's just a fantastic journey when i'm in the studio, recording. It's in that place that I am at peace, creatively.  I'm blogging about the album process.

Also on my blog is a NEW article. Yippee! I spoke at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood last week on this topic: “How to be a successful Artist Entrepreneur – the ins and outs of getting out there as an artist in the business of music”. I just finished it today. So I've now completed the article on this subject and will  be a chapter in my upcoming book, Just Get Out There.

Enjoy the read below, and the ride. There's so much to absorb, as life is filled with action and creativity,

Let the Debate Begin. The Kobe Jordan Song is here!

For Immediate Release

Let the Debate Begin…The Kobe Jordan Song is here!

Los Angeles, California, May 22, 2009 - Divine Nine Productions announces the release of The Kobe Jordan Song by The Benchwarmers.

For sports enthusiasts there has never been a more controversial debate than Kobe Bryant vs. Michael Jordan.  Fans of Kobe claim that he can do everything Jordan did and more, while Jordan fans normally point to the statistics.  Their bodies, their position, their swagger and even their coaches are eerily similar.  But are their games as close as people say? And if so, who is better?

The Benchwarmer emcees J.Walker and Myu originally connected in college through their love of basketball and hip-hop. As with most basketball fans, a hot conversation topic has always been the comparison of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.  After countless hours of debating, the sports emcees J.Walker and Myu of The Benchwarmers, decided to write their feelings in the way they know best… through rhymes.  Each emcee takes a side as they debate statistics, facts and hurl insults until a winner is crowned. Or is there a winner? You be the judge!

Getting his start in sports poetry on the Los Angeles Lakers Station AM570 KLAC, J.Walker has now graduated to become the resident poet of the nationally syndicated (Chris) Myers and (Steve) Hartman show on Fox Sports Radio.  He has been called “a lyric genius” and the “The modern day Dr. Seuss” for his daily sports “freestyles”, which he delivers live on air. Extraordinary hip-hop lyricist and sports addict, Myu, encompasses Kobe’s fans as he masterfully battles J.Walker. Myu, the epitome of lyricism, hails from the north east but has become the voice of South Florida where he is as comfortable on the corner as he is in a corner office. Chicago native, and die hard Chicago Bulls fan Evan J. Beigel, is a full-time Composer, Producer and Recording Engineer in Los Angeles, CA.  A few passionate sports conversations with J.Walker and Myu forged his involvement with what has now become The Benchwarmers and completing the trio bringing The Kobe Jordan Song to the world.

The five and a half minute song is backed with live instrumentation and DJ, creating an alternative hip-hop fused with rock, jazz, and r&b, not heard before and has been hailed as “a must for anybody who loves sports”.

Listen to the Kobe Jordan Song at http://www.thekobjordansong.com and buy the full version on the website, or on iTunes and all other digital distribution sites.

Read about Divine Nine Productions at http://www.divinenineproductions.com – a company jointly owned by gilli moon and J.Walker

Incredible sixth album release for 25 year old, Katie Garibaldi, Bay Area singer/songwriter

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At Just 25, San Francisco Bay Area Artist Katie Garibaldi

Releases Her Sixth CD, Next Ride Out

San Francisco, CA — Living Dream Music announces the release of Next Ride Out, by San Francisco Bay Area independent music artist, Katie Garibaldi.

Celebrating the release of her new album, Katie will be performing at Broadway Studios in the North Beach district of San Francisco on Saturday, June 20th, with guest performances by local artists Jesse Brewster and Welcome Matt.

The new CD, Next Ride Out, will be available for purchase on the night for the first time. The release show will also raise awareness for the San Francisco non-profit organization Muttville, which creates better lives for older dogs through rescue, foster and hospice. For advance tickets, go to www.brownpapertickets.com/event/66793 and more details of the night at the end of this release. Katie Garibaldi's new CD will be available for sale from June 20 at www.katiegaribaldi.com, iTunes, Amazon mp3 and various online stores. Her CD is available for review by media, and the artist is available for interviews. Contact details at the end of this release.

Katie Garibaldi’s new sixth full-length album features ten original soul-satisfying tracks, comprised of five brand new songs and five previously recorded songs that are smacked up with fresh arrangements and performances. The album title, Next Ride Out, references the lyrics of Katie’s song “Home,” which is on her 2006 release, Fallen Angel. The lyrics pay respect to the past, given that half the songs on the new album have been recorded on previous projects, but the title also implies a look into the future, with new songs as well as a detectably revamped sound. “Next Ride Out is a nod to my past and a peek into the next chapter of my life,” says the songwriter. “For this album, I’ve written songs about real love, coming together in a relationship, and the gray area of a broken heart still in love. I’m always evolving as an artist. Always growing.”

The ten tracks mainly focus on relationships, love, and pain, as the songwriter is best known for, but the songs also carry a bit more humor, vulnerability, and self-discovery than her past work has shown. Maturity, both musically and emotionally, is evident, and the artist gives us more heart and guts than ever before. The sound is reminiscent of Americana with a twist of sparkling pop. Sweet and spicy, and full of heart. Michael Molenda, a noted producer, engineer, and editor-in-chief of Guitar Player magazine, produced the album at Tiki Town Studios in Mill Valley, Ca. The studio has been home to many major label artists, as well as U.S. and European indie artists. Electric guitars make their first appearance on a Katie Garibaldi album, performed by the producer. Molenda and Garibaldi seem to be a perfect producer-artist match in the studio, as proven by the tracks, which showcase the artist’s vocal dynamics. The singer’s rich voice is punctuated by noteworthy phrasing, something that has not been as obvious in her past recordings. Katie reflects, “the most important thing I learned from working with Mike Molenda in the studio is that as a singer, you need to be able to tell a story to the listener. You can’t just sing the melody. You have to sing the lyrics like you’re telling a story. Once I opened up to that, I believe I gave my songs a whole new meaning just by the subtleties in my vocals.”

Next Ride Out is altogether vibrant and rich with lively performances, from strong country-esque tunes (like “Hey, Hey Darlin’” and “Nothing Good Lasts”) to upbeat catchy pop treasures (including “Say The Word” and “A Love Without Chains”), to moving ballads, including the song “Falling For You” (one of the songs that was rerecorded from a previous release). It stands out as the “live” track on the album, featuring strings, harmonious bass lines, and Katie’s acoustic guitar fingerpicking. This is a heart-tugging gem sure to grab every listener’s attention. The album also includes an enjoyable re-creation of the singer’s song “Went Too Far (Foot In My Mouth),” which Katie fondly refers to as “Foot” at most live shows. The track features Michael Gallant, Senior Editor at Keyboard magazine, on Grand Piano, giving a whole new spin on such an already likeable song.

Months spent working away in the studio, Katie was holding out the best for her audience. Next Ride Out is finally here and it’s sure to give the singer’s fans, as well as brand new listeners, a ride to musical bliss with surprises in every nook and cranny of her songs. With the end of this CD’s making, the artist’s ride has just begun. This album is a coming-of-age, expressive, emotional, and delightful story of a rising and talented leading light. With Next Ride Out, Katie Garibaldi has arrived. Katie Garibaldi has a characteristic musical style that is all her own—wherein her fusion of equally pop- and country-tinged folk-rock gives her a distinct and edgy sound. At just 25, Katie has already released six albums, constantly tours the country, and runs her own record label—Living Dream. Katie Garibaldi is not just another “chick with a guitar.” She is a business-minded individual and creative music artist who has acquired a devoted fan base, mainly due to her engaging live shows, but also in part to her personal connection to listeners and outreach to the community.

From mp3s to sweaty tees - Team BFM Digital Trains For The LA Marathon and raises money for Aids Project LA.

From mp3s to sweaty tees - Team BFM Digital Trains For The LA Marathon and raises money for Aids Project LA.

As you may or may not know, my label, Warrior Girl Music (www.warriorgirlmusic.com) is digitally distributed through BFM Digital: www.bfmdigital.com. Our SKILLZ cd for youth www.skillzcd.com, my Christmas Song (you'll have to wait till Dec to hear that again) and our Warrior Girl Music and Art Of Men compilations www.warriorgirlmusic.com/compilations are distributed by BFM, and soon my upcoming brand spanking new album which isn't ready yet. Patience… om…..

Now the boys at BFM Digital are so - ACTIVE - that their staff will even run the LA Marathon, and that's no mean feat! That's right, Steven Weber and Steven Corn, executives of BFM, will pull off their ties and polished shoes, and don sweaty tees and runners.

And it's all for a worthy cause - this is where I come in. I want them to raise over $3000 for the Aids Project LA, which is why they are running the marathon, so that they can get this over and done with, get to the finish line, raise the money and get back to the office and get on with chatting to iTunes about my fabulous CDS!!! He he.

But it means YOU reading this and clicking the link below and making a pledge. Even $1. Whatever you can, so that they can pull this off.

Read what Steven Corn from BFM had to say about their RUN:

"Here's something that I never thought that I would say: "I'm training for the LA Marathon!" Last year, Steven Weber joined the Aids Project LA training program for the LA Marathon and I wimped out. He completed the 2008 LA Marathon which was just amazing. When October rolled around again, he hounded me to join up. Without any running experience, I hesitated. But ultimately, I said, "Yes." So for the past four months, the two Steve's have been getting up early every Saturday morning to do our group training runs. They started at 4 miles. Today it was 20 miles!!

"The training program is being offered by Aids Project LA to help raise money for their various programs. We have pledged to raise over $3000 and we need your help.

We realize that times are tough out there. But just imagine how hard it is for people suffering from Aids. We would greatly appreciate any contribution you can make. Just click on the link below and you can make a donation (which is, of course, tax deductible). THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!"

* * * * * PLEASE PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE CAUSE and HELP THEM RUN at: http://tinyurl.com/bfmmarathon. More info is on this link too, especially the part about where your money is going.

And make sure you get out and exercise a bit today yourself! Get off the twitter, facebook, myspace, ning, pro tools, guitar, keyboard, guitar hero, blah blah, and go RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Peace out,

gilli moon

Latest gilli moon newsletter online now

G'day peaceful warriors... Really nice to have your email company for a moment as I share with you my monthly newsletter.

I've just arrived back in L.A from a sojourn in France and Italy where I got in touch with my soul in a different way. (Me and Monet on the right). You may not know this about me but I studied art at University (Bachelor of Education in Visual Arts), so it was wonderful to feel it all the true way in France and Italy. Also, as most of you know, I am recording my new album, which I've been producing since early January. I'm now diving back into that process. Read my blog and read about my trip, and also be part of my album recording process, at www.gillimoon.com/word

Drum roll please.... I have two important events this month which I hope you can be part of. The first is this coming Saturday, Downtown LA, for our Skillz For Life show, celebrating the CD "Skillz" which I created with spoken word hip hop artist J.Walker. It's at 1pm and it's oriented for youth, so if you have any or know any, bring them down. This CD is by far the most inspirational and revolutionary music project I've ever created and I encourage you to listen to some tracks if you can't make the show, online at www.skillzcd.com. More details further down with a CD review just in!

The following Saturday, the 18th, I am co-hosting a Benefit for my dear friend Deb Flanagan, who has Lou Gehrig's disease. We are doing a benefit concert in Venice, Ca, and it's also on the internet as a simulcast so please log in from around the world. I have held a 6 year friendship with a wonderful human being, Deb Flanagan. Deb has been an active music enthusiast, promoter and business owner, based out of Austin Texas, for many years. She has given SO much to my artistry and my label Warrior Girl Music over the years, and I was saddened to hear that Deb had been diagnosed with ALS, known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease", which has turned a vibrant, active woman into someone who has lost many abilities of her body and degenerating every day. With lack of medical funds i decided to do a Benefit for her. Please read below about the Benefit and come, if in LA, or log on to the Internet to watch as well as DONATE!!!!!!

A few other wonderful ingredients in my life that are making a great sauce include a new music deal I've made for my songwriting, and the continuation of our Skillz CD launch. All great news and below.

Enjoy the read below, and the ride,

NEW AGE SAILS OUT OF THE CARIBBEAN

On an island where Soca is king and Reggae is queen, soprano Juliet Lyons unleashes the ethereal power” of her debut album, My Siren Song, with an international release party at Coconut Bay, Saint Lucia (Vieux Fort, Saint Lucia, West Indies) 25 February 2009---

From New Mexico to California to an island in the Caribbean, Juliet Lyons is making international waves with the release of her debut album, My Siren Song. A melting pot of sounds - a fusion of New Age, Chill Out, and Classical Crossover, her music sets sail from the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia on March 25, 2009. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served and Juliet will perform a few selections from the album, which infuses New Age, Chill Out, and Classical Crossover genres of music with global undertones. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Juliet Lyons was until recently a recording artist and private vocal instructor in Los Angeles. She washed up on Saint Lucia’s shore last year to join her husband who presently works for Coconut Bay Resort on the southern tip of the island. Although the album is being released with a concentration on the U.S. market, Juliet’s release party will take place at the very place the cover photography for her album was shot. “I’m thrilled to be having my release party here in Saint Lucia,” says Juliet. “Not many people can say they launched their CD from a beautiful island in the middle of the Caribbean!”

On an island where Soca is king and Reggae is queen, Juliet Lyons’ music, loosely categorized as New Age, may be a change of pace. New Age music is less rhythm-driven and more melody driven than Soca, for example, and is described as peaceful music “which is intended to create inspiration, relaxation, and positive feelings.” (Wikipedia) But one can’t classify Juliet as solely New Age. Her melodies, her voice, and her creations take one beyond the realm into a more popoperatic groove fusion, pushing the boundaries of music genres. Calling to mind elements of Sarah Brightman and Josh Groban, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, Enigma, and Thievery Corporation, Juliet’s soaring, three octave soprano voice is the silk that spins it all together, creating something sophisticated, sensual, intellectual, and uniquely her own.

Juliet is a classically trained songstress who has performed around the world. A prolific songwriter, her songs have been placed in a variety of independent films and signed to several music libraries. My Siren Song pushes the boundaries of music genres while Juliet Lyons’ vocals deliver the emotion of her thoughtful lyrics with pristine ethereal power, sailing the Caribbean breeze. The CD is available online at CD Baby, iTunes, and Amazon.
