Warrior Girl Music eNews a little bit of gilli moon monthly in your inbox January 2011 G'day peaceful warriors, gilli moon here. Release, renewal and blossom... my theme for the new year. It's going to be an incredible year. I can feel it already. I see it unfolding in two ways. The first I see a great opportunity for renewal. I plan on cleansing, releasing, eliminating and de-cluttering everything that doesn't serve me, and bring my life and my work down to the few things that are important. Secondly, I see it as an opportunity to blossom into creative arenas in uncharted waters, arenas that I have not had time for or had put on the back burner until now, but have always wanted to realize. OK, What's in this issue? * A very cool show in L.A this Friday 7th @ Hallenbecks where I will be giving an award to a special songwriter who has shown promise and talent. This is the first time I created the Songsalive! Songwriter Of The Year Award and we will give that to Kaye Reznick, and I will perform with my band. It's a small room so hoping we can fill it with friends. Come on Peeps in LA - come out and help us with a good crowd! * Next week I'm performing 3 shows at NAMM, the largest music exhibition convention in America. It was a warm and toasty night. I also finished my e-book edition for Kindle, and had some downtime with the family. Was set to perform at Pershing Square Downtown LA just before Xmas but we got rained in for a week so the stage was soaked and we had to cancel. I offered my Xmas Song as a single this year, "Merry Christmas My Love", which is still available on my music page. I read a lot, and wrote a lot, and very much enjoyed the holiday season. This pic was taken up in Ojai last weekend over New Year's Eve. TODAY'S blog: Beyond the "me, me, me", there is something wonderfully fulfilling about making a contribution to the world.
    I surround myself with like-minded people who also foster this same philosophy...
    Some people contribute their energies to non-profits, voluntary organizations and groups, even bands (as musicians) and then complain about it later. They give of themselves and then swiftly retract it thinking that their energy is not appreciated or money not well spent. Or they feel hard done by because they find out the pay wasn't good, or they didn't get a certain exposure they expected. This happens a lot with Artists who perform at a show or festival for free and spend time and money to be involved, but then feel jaded after when they don't feel they got anything out of it. I've had songwriters complain that they didn't get a record deal or get signed in some way from a CD compilation we've produced with their song on it, even though what we did provide was worldwide promotion. It’s like they expect us to be their saviors....
 ...But the real reason is that everyone has their own story in life. Just because you put your stuff out there, doesn't mean everyone is going to hop to it and listen to you, call you, or come see your show, make you a star. Everyone has their own agenda and sometimes circumstances play a factor, like the weather, current economy, being unknown in a certain region, not enough of a story about you to instantly like you. It takes time to develop a buzz. If you're doing it all on a budget it can take years. That's ok. Because guess what? You are an Artist for life. You have all the time in the world. There is no end-date here. (Only in your mind.) What’s important to know is you are responsible for everything that happens to you. There is no one else to blame. Be the master of your own destiny, and take the heat, because it surely isn’t right to blame others for your Lack of Whatever, because YOU made the decision to be here.
