As we settle in for eggnog and holiday cheer, I revel in my 2010 year, and what a year it has been for me. From a stint on 60 Minutes back in Feb, to releasing my new album late June, "the stillness", to finishing up the writing and publishing my new book, "Just Get Out There", November this year, all has been rockin' amazing. I am grateful for my journey, and for the creativity inside me.  Thank you to all my friends and fans for making it special. The writing of my book, however, was not a personal need for self gratification, but had a very important purpose for artists, and all humans who feel the urge to find their inner creativity. The book had to be written, it was destined to be written, and as we are now leaping soon into a brand new year of opportunities and discoveries, I wanted to entice any of you who are creative, want to be creative, or didn't know you were creative, to take a look-see at this book and see if it is for you. TODAY'S blog: Beyond the "me, me, me", there is something wonderfully fulfilling about making a contribution to the world.
    I surround myself with like-minded people who also foster this same philosophy...
    Some people contribute their energies to non-profits, voluntary organizations and groups, even bands (as musicians) and then complain about it later. They give of themselves and then swiftly retract it thinking that their energy is not appreciated or money not well spent. Or they feel hard done by because they find out the pay wasn't good, or they didn't get a certain exposure they expected. This happens a lot with Artists who perform at a show or festival for free and spend time and money to be involved, but then feel jaded after when they don't feel they got anything out of it. I've had songwriters complain that they didn't get a record deal or get signed in some way from a CD compilation we've produced with their song on it, even though what we did provide was worldwide promotion. It’s like they expect us to be their saviors....
 ...But the real reason is that everyone has their own story in life. Just because you put your stuff out there, doesn't mean everyone is going to hop to it and listen to you, call you, or come see your show, make you a star. Everyone has their own agenda and sometimes circumstances play a factor, like the weather, current economy, being unknown in a certain region, not enough of a story about you to instantly like you. It takes time to develop a buzz. If you're doing it all on a budget it can take years. That's ok. Because guess what? You are an Artist for life. You have all the time in the world. There is no end-date here. (Only in your mind.) What’s important to know is you are responsible for everything that happens to you. There is no one else to blame. Be the master of your own destiny, and take the heat, because it surely isn’t right to blame others for your Lack of Whatever, because YOU made the decision to be here.
